Position Context

Technical role partner with Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Supply Chain and other functional areas. Reporting to the Shop Director, the position is accountable for a defined section of manufacturing (To be determined) for providing technical support and operations leadership to assure business objectives are met or exceeded in the areas of Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost and Environment initiatives.

Position

Responsible for ensuring Plant and Equipment Reliability of the designated shop within VinFast through direct reports and, by extension, with all other functions. Establish excellent relationships with all functional leaders and external (3rd party) leaders involved in the vehicle and production process development, launch and manufacture. Overseeing and being involved in the installation and commissioning of plant and equipment.

Manufacturing responsibilities include all aspects of the Operations business in the areas of Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost and Environment. As a Technical Manager, you will be a key partner for establishing and achievement of a shop’s budget and performance goals.

Assist with Development and execution of business plans which deliver year-on-year performance efficiencies through a Continuous Improvement culture.

Recruit, coach, train, develop and motivate subordinates to optimize overall business performance with company policy.

Drive a proactive Maintenance culture, ensuring preventative Maintenance programs are established, implemented and completed as per equipment provider requirements.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of manufacturing engineers in the [General Assembly, Body Shop, or Paint Shop].
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes to optimize production efficiency and quality.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot manufacturing problems, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Lead and participate in process FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, quality, and production to ensure smooth operation and product quality.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and calibration programs to ensure optimal performance.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols within the department, promoting a safe work environment.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, quality, and cost.
  • Stay up to date on industry best practices and new technologies in electric vehicle manufacturing

Position Requirements

  • A desire to lead a team that instills a Safety-first approach to everything we do. Ensuring that LOTO (Lock out tag out) processes and procedures are adhered to and all risks are identified and mitigated before each task.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership of Maintenance teams within a high paced, automated Manufacturing environment.
  • Good common-sense business insight and experience with the development and implementation of business strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to grasp and effectively use technical concepts and technical information.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and active learner with strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to perform successfully in multi-national relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in a lead manufacturing engineer role within the automotive industry, preferably with electric vehicles.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering software (e.g., CAD, CAM).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A strong understanding of safety principles and regulations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Sound Technical knowledge of a highly automated environment desirable.
