Job Overview

The Blue Economy Manager will lead initiatives related in the nexus of sustainable silvofisheries/aquaculture/blue carbon project within the broader framework of the blue economy. This role involves managing projects that align conservation efforts with economic growth, working closely with local communities, governments, and industry stakeholders to enhance project goals. The ideal candidate has a strong background in coastal fisheries/aquaculture, an understanding of environmental and social impacts, and experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and policy advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement sustainable coastal fishery/aquaculture projects in line with the organization's blue economy goals.
  • Familiar with reviewing scientific papers and able to co-operate with scientist or researcher to publish proof points related to sustainable coastal fishery/aquaculture.
  • Collaborate with local communities, government bodies, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders to create and support policies and practices that promote sustainable fisheries and economic development.
  • Lead assessments of marine resources, coastal ecosystems, and local fishing practices to identify opportunities for improvement and increased sustainability.
  • Design and manage initiatives to mitigate overfishing, habitat degradation, and the impact of climate change on coastal communities.
  • Monitor and evaluate project outcomes, ensuring alignment with sustainability standards and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage budgets, proposals, and partnerships, ensuring financial responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Engage in policy advocacy, providing expertise and advice to governments and international bodies on the development of sustainable fishery policies.
  • Foster capacity-building programs for local fishers, farmers and stakeholders, promoting the adoption of sustainable practices and tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, fisheries management, environmental science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in coastal fisheries management, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project management, including budget oversight and team leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable fisheries practices, marine resource management, and blue economy principles.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across sectors.
  • Understanding of international and national regulations regarding fisheries and marine conservation.
