About Us:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Book Editor to help us refine and polish a manuscript into a cohesive, engaging book. This is a contract role for a project that requires a skilled editor to focus on both content and developmental editing. You will play a key role in ensuring that the book flows seamlessly, aligns with its core message, and offers an exceptional reader experience.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Flow and Structure Management: Ensure logical progression between chapters, with smooth transitions and a cohesive structure (introduction, body, conclusion).
• Consistency of Voice and Tone: Maintain a consistent narrative style and tone throughout the book.
• Thematic Alignment: Ensure each chapter aligns with the central theme and contributes meaningfully to the overall narrative.
• Introduction and Conclusion Review: Refine the introduction to engage the reader and review the conclusion for a strong sense of closure.
• Repetition and Redundancy Management: Identify and eliminate unnecessary repetitions or redundancies.
• Chapter Length and Balance: Ensure chapters are relatively balanced in length and maintain a rhythm that flows naturally.
• Content Accuracy and Completeness: Double-check facts, figures, and references for accuracy; ensure all necessary information is present.
• Formatting and Presentation Consistency: Review headings, subheadings, font size, and other formatting elements for uniformity.
• Proofreading: Correct any errors and ensure that chapter titles align with their content.
• Reader Engagement: Assess the manuscript for engagement and ensure the book delivers value and a satisfying reading experience.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in content editing and developmental editing for published books.
• Strong understanding of book structure, narrative flow, and voice consistency.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to spot errors in grammar, style, and formatting.
• Ability to refine content for readability, clarity, and engagement.
• Experience working with authors on long-form content (nonfiction or fiction).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
