DIMENSIONS OF THE POSITION:

The Operations Readiness Manager reports to the Project Director - Engineering and will be responsible for preparing and implementing a detailed Operations Readiness Plan (ORP) that will define the requirements to facilitate the transfer of ownership from the project organisation through project commissioning, ramp and sustained operations.

PURPOSE:

  • Operations readiness involvement within the project delivery phase from early construction & completions is a key element for ensuring a successful transition from construction, through commissioning and plant ramp up.
  • The Operational Readiness Manager will be responsible to develop an integrated Operational Readiness Plan (ORP), which is aligned to the relevant Project Execution Plan (PEP) that considers all technical functions, key stakeholder requirements and operational standards to support the set up and running of the project. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, included but not limited to: Production/Technical/Projects Develop and Implement the Operational Readiness Plan (ORP) by:
  • Ensuring a detailed, workable, comprehensive, and feasible ORP is timeously delivered.
  • Developing the Operations Breakdown Structure classifying required business processes, people / skills requirements, and technological support, ensuring that operational readiness activities are completed on time.
  • Providing a detailed schedule and estimate for the ORP with specific focus on lead times, ensuring all resources i.e. people, equipment and machinery are in place to meet operational readiness requirements.
  • Capturing and sharing best operational practices and carry out internal and external benchmarking to enhance business optimisation processes.
  • Ensuring operational readiness by reviewing current projects that are aligned with a standard process improvement framework and methodology.
  • Facilitate alignment of roles and responsibilities within the Operational Readiness team and other stakeholders to ensure effective operational ramp-up.
  • Define and agree on KPI’s and ensure alignment with the production ramp up curve and sustained operational goals with respect to plant availability, productivity and OPEX targets.
  • Provide a baseline detailed estimate of all materials and work to be performed directly and a detailed schedule of all activities directly related to ramp-up of production to ensure operational readiness.
  • Develop maintenance systems, procedures, routines, spares loading including coordination with procurement/logistics personnel to develop supply/logistics and warehousing systems. •
  • Conduct an analysis and interpret the root cause of any variances and distribute a consolidated report to the key role players to ensure corrective action is taken.
  • Establish and develop an effective communication plan between key stakeholders to ensure efficient change management as and when required.
  • Distribute and communicate the detailed Operational Breakdown Structure to ensure that agreement is reached prior to commencement of production.
  • Optimise human resources to ensure maximum output is delivered by the section, and assist in the development of job descriptions, competency profiles, training matrix, training materials and assist in recruiting operational personnel.
  • Ensure that, high level of work ethics is maintained, and that workers continuously strive towards improving their own performance.
  • Manage a safe and healthy work environment where workers and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment, by developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) pertaining to the new operational area.
  • Ensure environmental impact falls within and complies with statutory requirements. Budget & Cost
  • Provide regular feedback to the cost control group to enable them to forecast the cost to complete the project against the approved budget.
  • Review cost management issues and identify improvements.
  • Manage Department’s Budget, identify issues, and propose improvements.

  • Develop effective mentoring and coaching processes to ensure that individuals and teams can implement and support the organisation's continuous improvement processes
  • Identifies Consider areas for further improvement when undertaking future planning. People & Learning
  • Develop strategies to ensure that workplace learning opportunities are used and that team members are encouraged to share their skills and knowledge to encourage a learning culture within the team.
  • Develop strategies to ensure that team and individual learning performance is monitored to determine the type and extent of any additional work-based support required, and any occupational health and safety (OHS) issues.

WORKING CONDITIONS/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Require working on a mining and Mills Engineering site in Indonesia.
  • Require to be on call on a 24 hours 365 days/year basis.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • B Tech or a bachelor’s degree in the following Engineering fields: Mining / Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering
  • Postgraduate qualification in Business Management (advantageous)
  • A minimum of 10 year’s experience in Mill Process plants Operations and 5 years’ experience as an Operational Readiness Manager within the Mining and Processing environment
  • Ability to optimise resource utilisation and control costs.
