Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their dynamic team based in Jakarta, Indonesia. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the growth of a leading business in the SEA region. The ideal candidate will be comfortable interpreting OJK regulations, liaising with regulators, advising on legal issues in relation to the technology and fintech space, and making decisions that have both legal and business impacts. The role will focus on leading the legal function across three entities in Indonesia, commercial transactional work, regulatory and compliance advisory, data and tech product review, business negotiations and supporting contentious matters mainly in the Indonesia market.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our client's business. You will partner with senior leadership teams to support growth and expansion while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to manage regulatory inquiries. Your expertise will be crucial in conducting legal reviews on new products or features and exploring new markets. You will also be responsible for improving legal processes and implementing risk mitigation projects. Planning the setup and operations of the Indonesia legal team will fall under your purview along with coordinating external counsel. Your role will also involve providing ad-hoc legal support as required.

  • Partnering with senior leadership, GR, and the International Commercial team and Partnerships team to support growth and expansion.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, managing regulatory inquiries.
  • Conducting legal, privacy and regulatory review on new products, features, or new markets.
  • Improving legal processes, implementing risk mitigation projects.
  • Planning the set up and operations of the Indonesia legal team.
  • Coordinating external counsel.
  • Providing ad-hoc legal support as required.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Senior Legal Counsel position is an Indonesia-law qualified lawyer with at least 10 years post-qualification experience (PQE). You should have worked in TMT, M&A, or banking/ finance in a tier1/2 law firm and have in-house experience with a tech / fintech company. Your knowledge of complex legal matters related to technology, finance, and OJK regulations will be crucial for this role. You should also have an understanding of the OJK regulatory framework and experience working with regulators. Experience building and leading a legal team is essential, as is comfort working with an international / regional team. We are looking for a fast learner who is technically strong and highly adaptable. A commercial and practical mindset is key, along with experience of product advisory for tech products. Excellent negotiation, drafting and analytical skills are also required.

  • Indonesia-law qualified lawyer with minimum 10 years PQE; having worked in TMT, M&A, or banking/ finance in a tier1/2 law firm.
