Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Sustainability Specialist is responsible for one or more of the following disciplines (Sustainability, Environmental).
Sustainability
- Prepare guidelines, protocols, and metrics for reporting Sustainability performance measures
- Develop the scope of work of contracts and task orders for vendors and contractors providing services to the Sustainability unit
- Develop and evaluate requests for qualifications (RFQ) and requests for proposals (RFP) for proposed Sustainability projects
- Develop and implement sustainable design standards for construction, repair, and modernization projects
- Provide proactive and effective project management of key operational Sustainability workstreams
- Collaborate with key business departments to support Sustainability initiatives in alignment with the firm’s Science-Based Targets and environmental goals
- Engage with procurement and other business teams to deploy and operationalize vendor greenhouse gas reduction programs
- Manage client inquiries regarding the firm’s environmental Sustainability program and progress
- Directly develop plans and implementation of the project’s social responsibility program, including but not limited to:
- National and local content
- Social risk and impact
- Community investment
- Lead implementation of social investment programs across multiple locations, ensuring strategic alignment with corporate goals. Oversee operational execution and stakeholder coordination
- Ensure integration of social impact considerations into project execution, Identify and resolve execution barriers, providing strategic input for program improvement
- Evaluate NGO effectiveness in program delivery and recommend improvements, Design risk-mitigated strategies; align programs with ESG goals
- Lead the development of strategic investment frameworks that incorporate social impact metrics, Develop and refine Monitoring & Evaluation methodologies. Conduct impact assessments and recommend program improvements. Ensure ESIA findings are incorporated into program execution and social investment strategies
- Lead engagement on ESIA requirements with regulatory agencies and project teams
- Develop and oversee ToC-based evaluations, Align ToC framework with long-term social investment goals, Advise on regulatory requirements and best practices
- Conduct compliance risk assessments for social investment programs
- Ensure alignment with legal requirements at project and regional levels
- Provide insights for financial forecasting, Review and approve funding allocations for social investments
- Approve SIRF submissions and ensure alignment with social investment strategy and impact goals
- Develop structured reporting mechanisms, Ensure database accuracy for tracking program performance and compliance, Lead preparation of CSR Social Investment Sustainability Reports
- Lead audit preparations and respond to compliance audits related to social investment programs, Coordinate corrective action plans as necessary
- Stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with stakeholders to refine investment roadmaps based on evolving community and regulatory dynamics, Lead cross-functional coordination with internal teams to align social investment with business priorities
- Develop high-level partnerships with NGOs, government stakeholders, and project teams to scale initiatives
- Represent social investment initiatives in client discussions

- Face-to-face and virtual training for employees
- Ensure coordination and strategic alignment across project / corporate social and national content initiatives that may be owned by other functions, such as Environment, Safety, Security, Administration, HR, and Supply Chain
- Work with the Client and Project Team to identify collaborative solutions to project issues or requirements
- Promote SR business objectives, including risk reduction, reputational capital, employee engagement, and cost efficiency
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, local law, and international standards, such as the IFC
- Performance Standards, UNGPs, UN Global Compact, ISO 2600
- Conduct in-depth analysis of regulatory changes and their potential impact
- Chair regular meetings with function leads for comprehensive ESG input
- Develop and deliver training programs on ESG compliance for internal teams
- Spearhead FigBytes database improvements and customization
- Engage with industry peers to benchmark McDermott’s ESG practices
- Lead McDermott’s participation in industry ESG collaborations and initiatives
- Oversee detailed gap analysis of ESG frameworks against McDermott’s disclosures
- Develop and present executive-level briefings on ESG trends and strategies
- Coordinate third-party audits and assurance processes for the annual report
- Implement advanced FigBytes platform analytics for detailed reporting
- Represent McDermott at high-level ESG conferences and events
- Lead the strategic planning for McDermott’s long-term ESG goals
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or relevant work experience in a related field
- Master’s Degree in Sustainability, Social Responsibility, International Development, Human Rights, or a similar field is strongly preferred
- Five plus (4+) years of experience in a professional-level position with responsibility for activities such as program coordination, administrative analysis, financial analysis, program development, and contract negotiation, preferably in a facilities construction, modernization, or sustainability or energy management program
- Experience in the development of National Content Plans (for different countries / projects)
- Principles, practices, and current trends in environmental Sustainability
- Local, State, and Federal laws, principles, practices, ordinances, and legal requirements in Sustainability and alternative energy including solar, battery storage, and green buildings
- Request for qualification (RFQ), request for proposal (RFP), and contracting procedures
- Principles of cost-benefit analysis -Emerging technological advances in Sustainability practices
- Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively
- Work both independently and collaboratively
- Plan, conduct, and evaluate complex Sustainability and alternative energy issues
- Work effectively with representatives of government agencies, private contractors, vendors
- Plan and implement grant, incentive, and rebate programs for sustainability efforts.
