Job Purpose

Manages and operates the vessel. Ensures that the vessel operates as required to conduct data acquisitions, inspections and underwater interventions.

Organizational Context

• Provides support in areas such as production, operations, and maintenance to engineers and scientists for data acquisition and interpretation.

• Executes operations in the field (onshore and offshore, e.g. on vessels, diving, ROV/ AUV/ CPT/ Drilling and other in-situ testing).

• Plans, coordinates and/or directs operations, including resource planning and management for field operations.

• Supports offshore operations management with specific administrative expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

1. HSE

Obligated to execute all Safety-, Security-, Health- and Environmental policies on board.

2. Compliance

Always comply with (inter)national legislation, flag state requirements, accepted industry standards, Company decrees and contracts.

3. Deployment of vessel

Contributes to the objective that the ship is always available to be deployed in a safe and efficient manner.

4. Assist

Assist with the preparation and planning for statutory plant inspection and testing that will be carried out throughout the year.

Assist the Chief Engineer with the planning and implementation of plant upgrades and modification works.

Assist in the planning and execution of all mobilisation and demobilisation of the drilling rig and ancillary plant.

Assist the drill crew with operational tasks when not fully employed within the primary rig mechanic role

5. Repair / Maintenance

Perform repairs maintenance and assigned activities on the vessel and to maintain machines, equipment and tools, assigned by the Master or Chief Engineer, under the responsibility of the Chief Engineer.

Effectively manage all repair and maintenance duties associated with offshore drill rigs and plant on the vessel assigned to.

To maintain and improve standards and ensure maximum equipment safety and reliability at all times.

Carry out planned preventative maintenance duties on all plant and equipment as advised in the vessel specific PPM scheme to ensure maximum reliability of plant at all times.

Plan and execute repairs to plant in the field that limit any exposure to vessel downtime and improve the equipment reliability.

Ensure the cleanliness and condition of the drilling plant is maintained to a high standard at all times.

6. Inspections

Carry out periodical inspections on the drill rig and associated plant as advised in the PPM scheme to ensure the effective running and safety of the plant.

Carry out ongoing and 6 monthly inspections of all lifting equipment, ensuring that all supporting certification is in date and ready for audit / inspection at any given time.

7. Administration

Ensure that maintenance records and relevant certification is held onboard the vessel to a high standard.

Ensure this is available for inspection at any given time.

Provide comprehensive weekly reports to the Chief Engineer.

8. Material Management

Develop a comprehensive spares package and effectively stock control it during ongoing operations; equipment to be topped up and re-ordered when required.

This will include effective stock management of all lubricants

9. Authority

To stop all activities whenever the safety of the crew, the ship or the environment is endangered or an unsafe, conflicting or non-conforming situation arises.
