Summary

Private Sector Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing and managing partnership with private sectors and other stakeholders for the improvement of sustainable solid waste management and EPR (Extended Producers Responsibilities) strategies. His/Her role is to involve collaboration with the private sectors, associations, government agencies, and NGOs in designing, implementing, monitoring EPR program, ensuring alignment with national and international waste management regulations and best practices. The candidate will require strategic planning, negotiation, and relationship-building skill encouraging private sector commitments to the implementation of EPR and circular economy.

Job Description

  • Develop private sector partnerships by identifying key stakeholders, including industries, manufacturers, retailers, and industry associations, to promote EPR practices.
  • Establish strategies and initiatives that facilitate win-win solutions for EPR and circular economy implementation.
  • Identify potential collaboration opportunities to support program design and strategy development for EPR-aligned plastic waste management, ensuring alignment with global EPR frameworks and the Global Plastic Treaty
  • Implement private sector partnerships by coordinating with identified stakeholders to execute planned initiatives and activities.
  • Collaborate with private sector partners to apply EPR principles through practical and scalable waste management solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance and capacity-building sessions to ensure compliance with national and global EPR standards, including the Global Plastic Treat
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with private sector stakeholders, and government agencies to support the scalability and implementation of EPR initiatives.
  • Foster collaboration across sectors to encourage the adoption of EPR practices within the circular economy framework.
  • Share knowledge, insights, and best practices with partners and stakeholders to promote continuous improvement in EPR practices.
  • Monitor the progress of EPR initiative implementation and evaluate their impact on plastic waste reduction efforts.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to assess program effectiveness, identifying challenges and recommending adaptive strategies to optimize future planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and distribute periodic and ad-hoc reports on EPR implementation, including data analysis and recommendations for strategic improvements

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, sustainability, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in private sector engagement, sustainability, waste management, or environmental policy, with a focus on EPR preferred.
  • Strong understanding of EPR principles, waste management regulations, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Proven track record in developing partnerships, negotiating agreements, and managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and to influence change in complex environments.
  • Familiarity with circular economy principles, recycling technologies, and supply chain sustainability is a plus.
