Job Summary

A Geotechnical Engineer position is available with Fugro Marine Geotechnical Team. The Marine Geotechnical service line is responsible for acquiring and interpreting accurate geotechnical data which enables our clients to make informed decisions during the engineering, design and construction phases of infrastructure development projects, ultimately reducing project risk and costs.

Reporting to a Senior Engineer appointed by the Engineering Manager, the Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for providing accurate and customised services to clients by performing geotechnical work around the process of acquiring, analysing, engineering and interpreting of complete and high-quality geotechnical data. The Geotechnical Engineer is also responsible for providing geotechnical advice in one or a small number of specialised technical disciplines, developing solutions to clients by putting acquired geotechnical data into context and providing on-the-job training to more junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Assume the role of shift geotechnical engineer or lead geotechnical engineer during fieldwork (on domestic and overseas offshore assignments)
  • Perform sample logging and soil classification, and input of data into geotechnical software packages
  • Process in situ test data
  • Perform offshore laboratory tests as required
  • Generate field deliverables such as geotechnical logs
  • Assist in planning and coordinating field investigations
  • Collect field operations data from various departments for field reporting purpose
  • Assign laboratory tests and monitor progress through the laboratory
  • Maintain clear and organised records of test data
  • Evaluate in situ and laboratory test data, and develop foundation design parameters
  • Perform engineering analyses including but not limited to spudcan penetration analysis, pile capacity and driveability analyses, and mudmat bearing capacity analysis
  • Produce factual data and engineering reports
  • Assist senior engineers in related project administrative tasks
  • Perform other technical and engineering related tasks as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on offshore and onshore workflows
  • Provide on-the-job training to more junior colleagues
  • Full compliance with Fugro and Client QHSSE requirements


Requirement

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or related discipline or equivalent in education and experience;
  • Medically fit and committed to undertake offshore assignments for 120 to 180 days or more per year, on rotation basis. The stated offshore days per year is non-guaranteed and may change at any time subject to company's business needs.
  • Has proven offshore and/or onshore experience (minimum 3 years) in geotechnical engineering discipline, preferably in support of the marine oil & gas and offshore wind farm projects;
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written technical English;
  • Strong report writing skills;
  • Data processing experience and ability would be an advantage;
  • Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills.
