Team Introduction

Our Public Policy and Government Relations (PPGR) team plays a vital role in in aligning business development needs with regulations established by the government. We are currently seeking a Regulatory and Advocacy Lead to join our team to drive strategic initiatives that enhance our influence and thought leadership in policy making for social media and e-commerce.

Role Overview

As the Regulatory and Advocacy Lead, you will be responsible for bridging public policy development with business strategies. You will work closely with internal teams, industry associations, and sector regulators to advocate for policies that support ByteDance’s interests in Indonesia market. The role will focus on shaping policy development, enhancing advocacy efforts in social media and e-commerce.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership

Lead and drive strategic initiatives to engage with relevant governmental entities, especially the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Finance, to advocate for and promote favorable regulatory policies that align with organizational goals.

  • Regulatory Insights and Guidance

Analyze and monitor emerging regulatory trends, providing senior management with strategic insights and assessments of their potential impacts on the organization. Recommend proactive strategies to address identified risks and opportunities.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including government officials and industry leaders, to strengthen the organization’s position in regulatory discussions and enhance its influence.

  • Risk Management

Assess complex regulatory landscapes related to social media and e-commerce, evaluate potential implications for the organization, and inform decision-making processes.

  • Cross-Functional Advocacy Coordination

Oversee and coordinate advocacy efforts across internal teams, including Legal and Comms, to ensure a cohesive and aligned approach to regulatory matters. Foster collaboration and communication among stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of advocacy strategies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in public policy, government relations, or regulatory affairs, with a focus on social media/UGC, e-commerce, or technology platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Legal, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of tech issues and regulatory landscape in Indonesia.
  • Proven successful track record in advocating issues within the technology sector and a well-established network within relevant regulators.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proactive, self-motivated approach.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess regulatory frameworks and provide operational guidance.
  • Fluency in both English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree within Political Science, Public Policy, or related fields is plus point.
  • Direct background in e-commerce, social media, and/or related digital sectors.
  • Legal and/or consulting firm background.
