About the Company

KPC operates in Sangatta, the main town of East Kutai Regency (Kutim) in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Sangatta is located on the Sangatta River, 50 km north of the equator on Kalimantan Island's east coast. It is 180 km north of Samarinda, the provincial capital, and 310 km north of the major population center, Balikpapan.

KPC has various active pits in the Sangatta mining area, operated by both KPC and contractors. Mining started at the Bengalon mine, about 25 km north of Sangatta, in June 2005.

The Sangatta mines are near Tanjung Bara port, connected by a 13 km overland conveyor. The Bengalon mine is also close to the coast, connected to the port by a 22 km haul road. The proximity of mines to ports gives KPC the advantage of low transportation costs.

Most KPC employees live in company-built housing at Swarga Barga and Prima Griya Lestari, situated between the mining center and Sangatta town. Some employees reside in the Tanjung Bara community, about 17 km from the mine.
